I've featured the lovely Shelley Panton on this blog a few times in the past (a tour of her Melbourne shop and the launch of her online shop), and thought that her latest venture was worth a look at too. Shelley is a Melbourne-based ceramicist and her studio, located in Melbourne's Middle Park, also doubles as a gorgeous homewares and design shop. As a small studio-based maker and retailer, Shelley is often asked about the story behind her work and the other makers she stocks. This prompted her to think about how she could share more of the stories behind the local authors and makers, and the response was to develop a series of events titled Meet the Makers.
Once a month, Shelley hosts Q&A-style evenings in her shop featuring various special guest speakers, as well as local food and wine. She recently released her list of events for the first part of 2013, and they include evenings with Emma Griffin and Nick McGrath of Onstone, Melbourne artist Rowena Martinich, Sarah Murphy of Murphy & Daughters (Bon Bon Soaps), a hot chocolate tasting and a couple of events in collaboration with the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
The events offer a chance for conversation and an insight into the various creative processes from the artists involved, and props to Shelley for doing a great job promoting local artists and craftspeople, as well as doing her part to create a sense of community and collaboration. For more details and to book, head on over to Shelley's website.
